Telling tales
I'm in Tasmania at the moment for Interpretation Australia's national symposium. My head is filled with wonderful ideas about creating evocative, compelling stories and meaningful experiences ...
* hmmm! so much to ponder! *
I recently found a collection of photos that reminded me of the potency of imagery in this context. Sarah Hannigan works for an NGO that redevelops forclosed homes and provides low-cost housing - through her project 'Reclamation', she documents the personal artifacts left behind in these homes by previous owners, leaving us to wonder about the experiences that brought these spaces to life in an earlier time ...

Eat your heart out, Mr Health & Safety!
Hello little blog ... long time no see! (well, it feels that way even though it's only been a week I guess). We're camping out at my sister's flat for a while during some renovations at our house and my days have been very busy lately ....
I'm feeling rather nostalgic today so here are some images from a more innocent age, when childhood was allowed to be fun:
(from When I Were A Lad: Snapshots From A Time That Health And Safety Forgot, by Andrew Davies, via the Mail Online)

Accidental mysteries
The other day I noticed that a picture of my husband, taken about 7 years ago, had fallen out of my wallet. I wondered whether someone might have found it, and if they in turn wondered about the story behind the picture ....
I like pondering the accidental mysteries of found photos.
Square America has an intriguing collection.

The pearl fishers
Recently I found some lovely pictures of Japanese ama, via even*cleveland, via ? (oops, I can't remember).
I like the romantic notion of these beautiful 'women of the sea', although I know in reality their lives were not easy.
More here. All images copyright of the Iwase Yoshiyuki Estate.
I also remember seeing an ama-themed exhibition by Kosyndan at Outre Gallery a year or two ago .... Here are a few of their lovely prints:
(.... and of course, these are also copyright of the artists. You can buy their work via Etsy).

The Steel Fork
I just found this lovely blog, but I haven't had time to browse in it properly .... looks like a keeper for a rainy day.
Via The Steel Fork I discovered the beautiful farm-and-food themed photography of Jonathan Levitt. Dreamy!
All photos by Jonathan Levitt.
