This is ..... what scares me

Three Buttons hosts a 'This is...' meme every week. This week's theme is 'What scares me'.

I really love darkness when it's quiet and still and fragrant and calming, but sometimes, when I'm out of my normal element and can't see what's around me, it generates a visceral sense of fear.

Although I love scuba diving I haven't yet had the courage to go on a night dive. I'm sure it would be fascinating, and hardly more dangerous than a standard dive, but I fear the sense of extreme vulnerability that I'm sure would accompany the darkness underwater.


One day I'd like to try it though! :-)

Klei

At the night market on Wednesday evening I bought some beautiful jewellery, made by Barbara van Oost and Ben Paola of Klei. Everything at their stall was wonderfully tactile with smooth, unglazed porcelain and silver pieces in soft organic shapes.

I think I may be in danger of becoming addicted .... a new collection of Klei products might have started with two little purchases on a hot Wednesday night!

Mobile swap

Wow - three posts today!

I'm very excited to be taking part in Elsie Marley's Mobile Swap - there are so many options!


I just hope I can make something good enough to be a real treat for my swap partner, who's all the way across the world in chilly old Washington.
I know she likes green, orange, yellow and turquoise, so I'll try and make something cheerful to brighten up the bleak Winter days ...

This is .... my favourite cup

Oops! I'm one day late in joining Angela's 'This is' game.....
Her theme for this week is 'My favourite cup'- seems easy but it turned out to be trickier than I thought! My first thought was of a little black and white cup that I've had since childhood, but I could't find it anywhere at home.

Yesterday at the National Gallery I saw some beautifully illustrated dinnerware by Eric Ravilious, and a pretty little cup with a gardening theme caught my eye (it would have been perfect for me!). Unfortunately I wasn't able to take photos and the gallery didn't have any postcards showing the cup.

So ... as I can't find my favourite childhood cup, and I can't find an image of the beautiful porcelain I saw yesterday, here's my favourite cup for this week:

Thread Den (again!)

Can't get enough of Thread Den at the moment! It's just what I've been looking for: a friendly, bright and creative space for learning about sewing with people who also love fabrics and design.


I'm really excited about improving my pattern-making skills (having oodles of ideas about clothes I'd like to make; the next step is learning how to construct them myself .....)

The Face

My sister sent me a link to this little story about a man's search for the origins of his father's mysteriously abstract sketches (and cake decorations!) - supposedly of a face.

The story's quite long, but rather sweet!
